Cynthia Sue Stafford, 72, of Bartonville was born on December 23, 1949 in Ypsilanti, MI to Rollie and Norma Arlene (Gabelhausen) Caudill. In her sophomore year at Limestone Community High School she met Jerry Stafford, and they married on April 26, 1969 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Peoria. Cindi is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry, and her son, Craig Stafford (Christine) of Mapleton and two daughters, Nikki Holmes (Troy) of Washington and Carrie Stafford of Colorado. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Morgan, Carsyn, Camryn, Luke, Savannah, Veronica, and Elizabeth. Also surviving is her brother, Curt (Patty) Caudill of Mapleton; and sisters Michelle Caudill of Misissippi, and Susie Caudill of Nevada; aunts; uncles; several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rollie and Arlene Caudill and her brother, Richard Caudill.
Cindi was a master in her craft of ensuring her ladies looked and felt beautiful when they left her shop. She was a licensed cosmetologist for 50 years, owning and operating her own shop. She was their greatest confidant and it was rumored that she held more than a few wills in her freezer.
Cindi started her public service with the parks and recreation committee in Bartonville. There she played key roles in the first pool fundraiser, Splash, which funded the swimming pool and creating Kramer trails in Alpha Park. Then she served as a trustee for the Village of Bartonville for 8 years. If you ever had a question about the height of a curb or a zoning question, Cindi would provide you with a very detailed explanation. Twice. She then “retired”, however, and served as Bartonville Village clerk for 12 years and Limestone Township clerk for 6 years.
Cindi loved hosting family dinners and baking with her grandchildren. Her Christmas parties were one of the most anticipated parties of the year. Cindi never missed a basketball game, track meet, or speech competition. She was always our biggest cheerleader.
She is a devoted member of St. Michael and All Angels Church in Peoria, formerly known as St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
