Charles “Lucky” Thomas Closen, age 65, of Bartonville passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Lincoln Village in Lincoln, with his family present. He is finally at peace after a nearly yearlong fight with cancer.
He was born on October 23, 1955, in Peoria to Frederick Melvin and Violet Joan (Heslin) Closen.
Lucky is survived by his siblings, John (Barb) Closen of Peoria, Jerry Closen of Pekin and Mary (Wayne) Seeyle of Pekin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ryan Closen; and siblings, Frank Closen, David “Buzz” Closen, Catherine (Sue) Wissel and Nicholas and Joseph Closen that passed away when they were infants.
Lucky worked for Illinois American Water for 36 years. He was a member of Laborers’ Local 165 for 42 years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Illini Basketball fan. Everyone that knew him knew that as well as loving his sports teams, he was quite the athlete himself. He was involved in Bartonville sports all of his life.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the American Legion Post #979 in Bartonville.
