Kerry Arnett Chumney, 75, of Bartlett, TN passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home. She was born March 1, 1939 to Oral and Dena Smith Arnett in Memphis. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ken Chumney; children, Ray Chumney, Kelly Wallace (Dave), Kimberly Simonton (Lee) and Kevin Chumney (Rachel); grandchildren, Christopher Chumney, Brianna Wallace, Josey Chumney, Madison Wallace, Daniel Wallace, Cole Simonton, Callie Simonton, Kent Chumney, Blake Chumney, Delaney Simonton and James Chumney; sisters, June Belew, Dena Broadfoot and Barbara Otey; many nieces and nephews. Kerry was raised in Memphis and was a member of Union Avenue Church of Christ. She attended Snowden and Memphis Tech High and remained close to classmates in her “Friends Forever” group. Her senior year she graduated from Harding High School in Searcy, AR where she was class officer, cheerleader and a member of the choir. She also attended Harding College in Searcy, AR. When her children were older she went to work for the Army Corp of Engineers in the safety office. Kerry loved her job and the people she worked with have remained friends in the retirees group. Kerry enjoyed her Wednesdays playing Mahjong and laughing with close friends and entertaining in each other’s homes with food, fun and fellowship. Thursday’s she participated in events at the Bartlett Community Center. Once a month she attended her “Friends Forever” group dinners with some of her closest girlfriends over the last 60 years. Her Tech High School friends regularly got together to share in each other’s lives and were a source of friendship. She always enjoyed helping others, making things special and cooking for family and friends. Kerry enjoyed flowers and her yard. Ceramics were also important to her during her life. Kerry’s grandchildren meant the world to her and she was one proud GG / Grandmother. Kerry loved her family dearly and her greatest joys were raising her four children and being a loving wife. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm of life endeared her to everyone around her. Kerry never met anyone who did not appreciate or love her. She was always a joy to be around and she will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November14, 2014 at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN with the interment to follow in Memorial Gardens.
