Joann McGarrity Glover was born April 16, 1936, to the late Joe Haley McGarrity and the late Mattie Lee Collins McGarrity in Osceola, Arkansas. She departed this life on November 2, 2022, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Henry Glover, Jr., in 2012 after 58 years of marriage.
She leaves behind her blessed children: Walter H. Glover, III, of Lancing, TN; Phyllis (John) Wnukowski, of Piperton, TN; Kathy (Greg) Davenport, of Horseshoe Lake, AR; Anita (Jimmy) Chandler, of Bartlett, TN; and Kristin (Joe) Russell, of Southaven, MS. She also leaves her grandchildren: Amanda Glover, Paige (Brad) Byrd, Kathryn (Joe) Gunter, Thomas Davenport, Scott (Jamie) Chandler, Kyle (Nicole) Chandler, Emily Chandler, Lauren (Derek) Fontenot, Aaron (Sarah) Russell, Tristan Russell, Dakota Plogger, and Josie Russell. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately as “GG”: Morgan, Addison, Liam, Makayla, Dalton, Cooper, Walt, Charleigh, Rayleigh, Mesha, Lydia, Reese, Lizzie, and Colleen. Joann was preceded in death by daughter-in-law Abby Glover, and grandchildren Bryan Matthews, Madeline Russell, and Angelia Russell. Joann leaves her sister, Sue Lynn Brewer of Pace, FL., and was preceded in death by her sister, Donna Lee Mitchell. She leaves countless nieces and nephews, who affectionately refer to her as “Aunt Jo.”
After being a homemaker for many years, Joann realized her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and was an LPN at St. Francis Hospital for 25 years. After retiring, she and Walter were members of the Bluff City Sams and traveled around on frequent campouts. She was a long-time member of the Oak and Elm Garden Club, and a member of the Mid-South Spinning Guild, and Memphis Dulcimer Gathering. Joann had also been a volunteer at Wings Cancer Foundation for over a decade, where she earned the title of Volunteer of the Year in 2017. She was also very active in the Oak Ridge Neighborhood Watch Association. Joann had been a long-time member of Eudora Baptist Church, and a current member of Colonial Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, November 6th, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 7th, 2022, also at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. Interment will follow the funeral at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange Rd, Memphis, TN.
