Jeanette Rainey

JEANETTE RAINEY, 75, of Bartlett, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at her residence. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, November 3; and Service will be 2 p.m., Sunday, November 4, with burial to follow in the Hope Mausoleum, all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Bartlett, TN. Mrs. Rainey leaves her husband of 54 years, Jay Rainey; sons, David Rainey of Memphis, Douglas Rainey and Danny Rainey who preceded her in death; three sisters, Barbara Louise Berry of Van Buren, AR, Mary Ruth Boyd of Wichita, TX (deceased), and Frances Elizabeth Cantrall of Springfield, IL; one brother, Buford F. Neely, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Jay and Jeanette met while working at Spencer Kellogg in Decatur, IL. They married on November 24, 1957 in Jay’s hometown where they lived for a few years. Their first son, David was born in 1960 and they soon moved to Decatur, IL when Jay received a job at Archer Daniels Midland. In 1968, their next son, Doug was born. In 1977, the Raineys moved from the Village near Poplar and Goodlett out to their dream home, Cedar Hall, in Bartlett. Jeanette always wanted an Antebellum home and Jay wished to live in a more country setting with a little breathing room. Cedar Hill was the perfect answer for both of them. After moving to Bartlett, Jeanette became active in the Bartlett Homeowners Association, Bartlett Historical Society and Bartlett City Beautiful Commission, and whole heartedly adopted her new town. Jeanette successfully placed both Cedar Hall and the Gotten House on the National Register of Historic Places. Also, with the more country setting, her love of animals truly emerged as Cedar Hall became the home for stray and injured dogs, racoons, squirrels, birds, turtles and anything else that wondered up and needed a home. Jay and Jeanette are both true animal lovers and support the new Bartlett Animal Shelter.
