Jane Gelston Hardage, 84, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016. Mrs. Hardage was the daughter of Aaron and Mattie Gelston and is survived by three children Linda Clemens (Mike), David Hardage, and Susan Willis (Mike). Another child, Jeff Hardage, preceded her in death. She leaves her siblings Marion (Bud) Gelston (Pat), Carolyn Doyle (Earl), Ed Gelston (Celia), and Elizabeth Stotts as well as grandchildren Michael Eck (Amy), Jason Hardage (Melanie), Jonathon Eck, George Aaron Hardage (Wendi), Mattie Stemper (Tim), Brandy Uekman (Richard), and Jamie Smith. Sixteen great-grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive Mrs. Hardage.
Mrs. Hardage was born in West, Mississippi but moved to Ellendale in her childhood and graduated from Bartlett High School. She was a cost accountant for the Navy for many years. While she enjoyed her work, she truly enjoyed her retirement when she had time to indulge her grandchildren and help out in the busy lives of her children. Her family was the center of Mrs. Hardage’s life and a source of great joy for her. She was surrounded by family during her final illness and death and will be missed greatly.
Flowers are welcome but some may wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers. If so, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Church Health Center in Memphis were two of Mrs. Hardage’s favorite causes and donations to those would be appreciated.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 26th at Memphis Funeral Home on North Germantown Parkway with a service following at 1 p.m. Mrs. Hardage’s grandson, Reverend Jason Hardage, will perform the service. Interment of Mrs. Hardage’s remains will be at the Ellendale Cemetery directly following the service.
