Sgt. James "Jim" Nathan Gaylor, of Arlington, TN, passed away on September 8, 2016; he was 67. He was born in Memphis, TN to William and Mary Lucille Gaylor on November 17, 1948. He was a graduate of Tech High School and attended Memphis State University. Following high school, Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served for three years, working on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He was an employee of Sears Crosstown for 19 years following his military service. He was a ninth degree master blackbelt in American Kyokushin-Kai and a long-time karate instructor. In 1989, at the age of 40, he joined the Memphis Police Department where he worked as a sergeant in the homicide bureau until his passing. He was the Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 452 in Arlington, TN. He was a member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Louie Elinor. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen Gaylor; his daughter, Jill Baker (Gene); his son, James R. Gaylor (Michelle); his brothers, William C. Gaylor (Amy), Robert E. Gaylor (Ana), Carlis L.Gaylor (Carolyn); his grandchildren, Brannon M. Hulley, Bailey C. Hulley, Nathan J. Gaylor, Nicholas Wayman, Ren Edwards, Selena Pruitt, Megan Baker, and Brady Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13 from five until eight o'clock at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN. The funeral service will be held the afternoon of Wednesday, September 14 at two o'clock at Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN with internment following at Arlington Cemetery.
