James(Jim) Talmage Griffin, passed away gracefully in his home, Saturday morning, September, 28th at 3:30 AM. He was born on September 12, 1928 in Ripley, MS, and was raised in Ashland, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Kitty Lou Griffin from Ashland MS; his wife Tiny Sue Griffin, his son Kenneth Griffin, grandson Derek Wayne Griffin, son-in- law, Palmer Waters, and all of his siblings: Leroy Griffin, Elaine Griffin, Nell Fortner, Ernestine Simpson, Sue Daniels, Nancy Womack; his nephews, Elbert Griffin, Albert Griffin, Mike Griffin, Gene McClusky, and nieces Betty Tyree and Linda Brock.
Jim moved to Memphis after graduating from Ashland High School and started working with Memphis Packing Plant. He was drafted into the US Army in 1950 where he served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1952. Jim came back to Memphis and continued his work at Memphis Packing Plant. He was later hired at Kimberly Clark where Jim made a good living and retired after 38 years.
Jim married Tiny Sue Harrell in 1952, and they had 67 wonderful years together. They raised five children that have expanded into a large loving family; Deborah Sue Griffin Waters, Patsy Gail Griffin Clarke (Camby), James Wayne Griffin, (Cheryl) , Emily Carol Griffin Hilligoss (John), Kenneth Lee Griffin and twelve grandchildren; Ashley Clarke Squire, Shelby Clarke McCleery, David Waters, Amanda Griffin Blevins, Amber Clarke Mills, Angela Griffin Schroeder, Justin Griffin, Daron Griffin, Brandon Griffin, Anna Griffin, Jessica Hilligoss Smith, Nathan Hilligoss, thirty great-grandchildren; Logan McCleery, Lacie McCleery, Lexie McCleery, Lillie McCleery, Alaina Squire, Aidan Squire, Adam Squire, Emory Mills, Annisten Mills, Piper Mills, Vanna Mills, Scarlett Blevins, Jameson Blevins, Kathleen Blevins, Elliott Blevins, Everett Schroeder, Lewis Schroeder, Camille Schroeder, Chloe Waters, Landry Waters, Aubrey Waters, Merritt Griffin, Magnolia Griffin, Beckett Griffin, Isla Griffin, Felix Griffin, Kylie Turner, Ashton Turner, Hannah Turner, Brooklyn Turner and more on the way.
Jim was a devoted husband, strategic provider, passionate grandfather, proud great grandfather, and a sincere and honest friend to all who knew him.
Jim was a visionary for our family. He led by a strong example of steadfastness, hard work, selflessness, as well as a loving and righteous life; truly the life of a believer. We are all thankful to know his faith in the living God and his trust in heavens promises for those who love and follow Jesus. Jim was a leader for his family of seven, working, saving, farming, ranching, teaching, and every now and then using hay string to mend the broken parts. Know this, Jim, our leader was a servant to the most high king and for that we have all seen what truly matters.
Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, October 4 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00pm. A reception will follow the burial from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
