James “Jimmy” Calvin, 71, of Cordova, TN passed away at his home on February 24, 2015 surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born to Aubrey and Catherine Calvin on January 26, 1944. Jimmy married Jo Anne and they were happily married for 37 years. Jimmy and Jo Anne owned Calvin Grinding Company from 1968-2011. Jimmy loved motorcycles; his family considered him a master craftsman – if a motorcycle part couldn’t be found, Jimmy could make it. He also loved tractor pulls, hunting, fishing, restoring antiques, and spoiling his grandchildren. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Chris Calvin, grandson, Eric Calvin, and sister, DD Carlton. He leaves a wonderful legacy for his children, Kim Whitehorn (Billy), Ken Rutherford (Steve), Lisa Payne (Jimmy), Jon Calvin (Gentri), and Marie Smith (Dustin), as well as his daughter-in-law, Teresa Calvin. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Steven Calvin, Cory, Cody, and Justin Whitehorn, Lauren Payne, Lydia Calvin, Tyler Robinson, Isaac, Gavin, and Noah Smith and 3 great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation on Thursday, February 26th from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
