We mourn the passing of Gene Eva Jones on November 10, 2024 at the age of 95 Gene was born on October 23, 1929 to Adrian Crouch and Lucy Imogene Mulhollan Crouch in Cleveland MS. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Claude Raney and their sons Alan and Richard Mark Raney, her second husband Charles Jones, and her sister Margie Crouch Dill.
Gene graduated from Cleveland High School and married her high school sweetheart Claude Raney. They had two sons, Alan and Mark. Claude was a radio personality and his job took them to various locations in the south. Following his untimely death, Gene assumed the role of family breadwinner. She acquired the skills she needed for a successful career with Gordon Trucking. After being single for a number of years, Gene met Charles B. Jones (affectionately known as Charlie) who would become her second husband. Marriage to Charlie created a blended family with two stepdaughters, Diane and Gina. The couple enjoyed travel in the U.S. and Europe, had many friends, and an active social life. Gene also was included in Girl Trips organized by her sister, niece and other female family members. The Girls cruised to the Caribbean and Alaska and also visited the U.K. and Finland. Gene was treasured for her humor and spirit of adventure.
Following Charlie's death in 2016, Gene continued to embrace a small circle of dear friends. Some she had known as long as 50 years. She leaves behind her grandchildren Justin Raney (Laura), Jason Raney, and Lauren (Matt) Johnson and their children; her niece Adrianne Linton; nephews Ron Dill, Gary Dill, and Barry Dill; several great-nieces and nephews; stepdaughters Diane (Bill) Papageorgeon and Gina (David) Badgett and their children; and dear friends including but not limited to Elaine Burgos, Carol Rooks, Virginia Heinrich, Kathrine Leffler, and Cynthis Tucker. .
Gene was a beautiful person who loved life and made it better for those fortunate enough to know her. Visitation will be held at 1 pm on November15 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett TN followed by the funeral service at 2 pm. The family welcomes flowers or memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
