The family of Duncan Rex Teague is deeply saddened to announce his passing on February 2, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grace Crutchfield Teague and James Rex Teague. He is survived by his wife, Judith Bousson Teague of Bartlett, TN, his daughters Katherine (Andy) Sullivan of Kingwood, TX, and Christine (Dave) Hughes, of Arlington, TN., his grandchildren Ryan, Claire, and Sean Sullivan, and Harvey, and George Hughes. He is survived by his brothers, Roger Teague, Larry Teague, and Ricky Teague.
Duncan was a native of Memphis, Tennessee, where he graduated from White Station High School in 1964. He graduated from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned advanced degrees at The University of Memphis. He was the Director of the Craigmont Planetarium of Memphis City Schools. Over the course of his career, he earned the title of Tennessee Young Educator of the Year in 1973 and received the First Bravo Award in 1980. As the coach of the Craigmont High School Knowledge Bowl Team and sponsor of the school’s Think Quest National Competition Winners, he greatly affected the lives of many students. He held multiple offices in SEPA, the Southeastern Planetarium Association, and was recognized with the Campbell Fellowship Award. He contributed to many professional publications as a writer and consultant, and enjoyed membership in the Memphis Stamp Collectors Society, a part of the American Philatelic Society.
Duncan traveled the world, visiting the Eastern Mediterranean, the Mediterranean Riviera, Scandinavia, the Baltic Sea region, cruised the Caribbean and even rounded Cape Horn with his bride and dance partner, Judy. Known as a great storyteller and fountain of knowledge, he spoke of science and the stars in a way that inspired a sense of mystery and awe. He will be remembered as a stellar educator, a wonderful father, and a doting grandfather.
The funeral mass will be 2:00 p.m. February 8, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (8151 Chimneyrock Blvd., Cordova, TN 38016).
