Dr. William F. Smith, of Memphis, passed away May 4, 2016; he was 80. Dr. Smith practiced dentistry in the Memphis area from 1962 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Memphis Dental Society, the Tennessee Dental Association, as well as the American Dental Association. He was an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed being a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Power Squadron, and the Memphis Yacht Club. He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith. Dr. Smith was a loving husband to his wife of fifty-five years, Mrs. Mary A. Smith. He was a caring father to his children, Bill Smith, Paul Smith, Suzie Applegate, Cathy Anthony, and Bryan Smith. Dr. Smith was well loved by his ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends for a catered gathering at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN on Sunday, May 15 from two until four o’clock. There will be a memorial Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8151 Chimneyrock Boulevard, Cordova, TN on Monday, May 16 at ten o’clock. Inurnment will occur at Calvary Cemetery.
