Doris was born on July 1, 1937 in Alcorn County, Mississippi to the late Odie and Genova Wright. She graduated in 1955 from Southside High School in Memphis, Tennessee.
She met her husband, James R. Floyd, while working together at S. E. Toof & Company (now Star Printing). Doris & James married and had their only daughter, Rhonda. They loved camping, riding motorcycles and had a home in Sardis, Mississippi. They loved to dance and could clear the floor! She sang country music with the Eddie Bond Show and the Rhodes Family. She sang at the Strand Theater in Millington where she met and made many friends. She will be greatly missed by her Tuesday night singer's group which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She worked for the University of Tennessee for over 30 years in the pathology department and retired as a medical transcriptionist.
Doris has been a member of Christ Church - Bartlett for fifteen years.
Along with her parents Doris was preceded in death by her husband James R. Floyd; two brothers G. Milburn and R. Tendall Wright; and great-granddaughter Gentry Paige Williams.
She is survived by her daughter Rhonda (Gary) Williams of Bartlett; grandson Gary (Jamie) Williams of Bartlett; five great-grandchildren Asher, Cohen, Rilynn, Briar and Maren; and her lifelong friend Maidene Childrey.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday, November 21 from five o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening and funeral services will be Friday, November 22 beginning at ten o'clock in the morning all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, Tennessee 38133.
