1933-2021
William J. Bolin “Bill”, a long-time resident of Barstow passed away February 16, 2021. He was born near the Appalachian Mountains in the small town of Ocoonita Virginia where his parents and brother farmed their land along with an old stubborn hard-headed mule named Mike. There was never a dull moment with that mule!
Bill served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Cape Esperance (CVE-88) from 1952 to 1956. He worked in the engine room, served as Military Police, and was an amateur boxer. He was honorably discharged in 1956.
After leaving the Navy he came to Barstow to visit his father, Arnold Bolin and family. Bill began working for the Santa Fe Railroad and then Knudsen Dairy where he retired after 20 years. Bill was hard working and a dedicated man.
Bill loved playing card games with his in-laws and family. He loved kids, animals and playing the harmonica. He always had a smile with an interesting conversation. Bill spoke often of his military days. He also earned his Associates of Art Degree at Barstow College.
In 1956 he married Sandra Johnson and they had the following sons: William Bolin Jr. and Clara of Brighton, MI, Kevin Bolin, Scott Bolin of Eugene, OR, and Eric Bolin of Santa Cruz, CA.
In 1972 he married Carolyn (Jones) Bolin and they became a blended family: Troy Jones, Riverside, CA, Richard Jones and Denene of Hillsboro, OR, Cecelia Jones-Bolin, Caldwell, ID and Crystal (Bolin) Ramos and Ricky of Picayune, MS. Bill and Carolyn were married almost 49 years.
Bill is also survived by his sisters: Carolyn (Bolin) Farmer, Barbara (Bolin) Fogel, Kathy (Bolin) Jarrell Sister in laws: Donna (Bolin) Feit, Edith Mace, Belinda Harris, Tamela Mace, Noreen Anderson, Frieda Powell, Karen Mace, Angie Mace. Brother in laws: Bob Fogel, David Jarrell, Steve Mace, Charlie Mace and Ken Anderson.
Bill and Carolyn have 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is proceeded in death by Edward “Bud” Bolin, (brother), Kevin Bolin (son), Jonah Varadi Jones (great-grandson), James Mace Sr. (brother-in-law), Bruce Mace (brother-in-law), James Mace Jr. (nephew).
William preferred no services only good thoughts and memories at his passing.
