Charley, a proud alumnus of Barstow Union High School, dedicated his career to the Marine Corps Logistics Base where he worked for 35 years, after an initial 7 years with Santa Fe and 5 years at Fort Irwin National Training Center after retiring from the MCLB. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life into his time with the United States Army National Guard, where he served with honor and distinction.
Beyond his service and career, Charley was deeply involved in local youth sports, coaching for many years with East Barstow Little League. He was remembered for his "old school" approach, emphasizing hard work, goal setting, and mutual respect. His coaching philosophy was that failure was simply a learning experience and a stepping stone to success, exemplified by his 1979 City Champions EBLL Elks.
Charley's personal life was enriched by his hobbies, which included golf, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors. His steadfast presence will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Snedeker; sons, Chuck (Joan) Snedeker and Larry (Joyce) Snedeker; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charley was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Brooks Snedeker and Frances E. Snedeker, brothers Robert Leroy, Jerry Joe, John Edward, Ronnie E., and Melvin Augustus Snedeker, and sister Norma Louise Frederickson.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, October 25th at Mountain View Memorial Park in Barstow, followed by a potluck and celebration of life at American Legion Post 751 in Newberry Springs.
Charley was a man of faith, regularly finding solace and guidance in his bible readings, and he is surely at peace in a better place.
