It is with great sadness the family says goodbye to an exceptional human being and war veteran. It is now his time to rest from the battlefield of life. Johnny will be forever remembered for his love of cooking, hunting, fishing, wood craving and his fun loving teasing nature with children. He loved to share, educate and boost about his animals, beautiful plants and flowers. Born August 4, 1932 in Springville, Nova Scotia and passed March 12, 1917 in Barrhead Alberta at the age of 84 he was predeceased by his parents, Abraham & Gertrude and stepdad Garnett, sons; Rickie, Keith & Randy brothers; Lawrence & Alfred and sisters; Betty & Thelma plus two grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, Sons: Barry (Sandy), Derrick, Kim (Fran) Robbie, Fraser. Daughter Terri (Gordon) Bowie and daughter-in-law Criss Schaffrick. Stepchildren: Bonnie (Larry) Perkins, Darlene (Wayne) Gross, Donna Jackson, John (AC) Gibbons, Les Gibbons, Nancy Bergevin numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins nieces and nephews.
Johnny was raised in Nova Scotia, at which time he became a journeyman B pressure welder, working throughout numerous provinces prior to moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1978 and shortly afterwards meeting his wife Shirley. In 1990 John and Shirley moved to Tiger Lily, Alberta and operated both Johns Welding and the Tiger Lily store until they retired and moved to Barrhead, Alberta.
A celebration of his life to be held on March 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Barrhead Royal Canadian Legion.
The family would like to thank Dr Krantz and the nursing staff from the Barrhead Heath care center for their exceptional care of Johnny during his stay.
