Charlotte Bond was born March 22, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late John Johnston Gross and Margaret Smith Gross. She met and married the love of her life, Edgar Lee ‘Peck’ Bond, Jr, at Western Maryland College. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Towson State College.
Charlotte was actively involved in her community, the Emory United Methodist Church, and in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her contributions included:
Serving as a lifelong teacher, both in a professional and personal capacity. Charlotte taught elementary school for 20 years at Owings Mills Elementary School. In her personal life, Charlotte acted as a teacher to her family by passing on life skills related to etiquette, sewing, and maintenance of a household.
Lifelong participation in Emory United Methodist Church as a member and an active supporter of church activities including church suppers, craft fairs and bake sales.
Devotion to her children and grandchildren including dedicating her summers to hosting summer camps for the grandchildren and traveling extensively with her husband Peck and grandchildren throughout North America and Europe.
Hosting two foreign exchange students for a year each in her home, Torunn from Norway and Elisabeth from Germany. She thereafter visited these girls and their families several times in Europe and also hosted their siblings, children, nieces, and nephews several times for short visits in her home over the following years.
Hosting annual get-togethers for large groups such as the Bond family reunions, the Gross Family reunions, Peck’s Chevron retirees reunion, and the Bridge Club Christmas parties.
She was a lover of games. She played Bridge regularly with her friends throughout her life and taught her grandchildren all kinds of card games from solitaire to canasta.
She had a passion for sewing. She led her church friends in making “Linus” blankets to be given by the police to children enduring difficult situations. She sewed late into many nights making crafts to be sold at the church bazaars.
She is survived by daughters: Charlotte Quay Bond Wallace, Hayward, CA; Cynthia Sue Bond Collins, Tallahassee, FL; and Victoria Helen Kidwell, Danville, IN; Sister: Es (Jim) Campbell of Newman, GA; Grandchildren: Kyle Collins, Tallahassee, FL; Jill Collins, Portland, OR; Brian Kidwell, Danville, IN; Beth Schultz, Farmington, MI; Travis Kidwell, Plainfield, IN; Lisa Jarino, Hawriver, NC; Donna Gonsalves, Livermore, CA; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee ‘Peck’ Bond Jr, and grandson, Justin Collins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Emory United Methodist Church, 1600 Emory Road, Upperco, Maryland 21155 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
