Juanita Jean (Bond) Hartline was born in Fresno, California on October 16, 1939, to Marion P. Bond (Sr) and Bertha T (Martin) Bond. She was their third daughter. Second daughter, Earline, passed away prior to Juanita’s birth. Her older sister, Ellen (Bond) Babb, was given a nickname by Juanita of “Tootie.” She had two younger brothers, MP Bond Jr and Johnny Bond. Her childhood was tough due to her father and having to work in the cotton fields. However, this only made her stronger. The family moved all over the valley following the crops. It was there that she became reacquainted with the Hartline family, in specific Jesse T Hartline, who became the love of her life. Jesse had just returned home from Korea, having served in the Army.
They married on 03/11/1955, and moved to Bakersfield, California. They eventually had two children, Dee A Hartline on 04/05/1961, and Victor A Hartline on 12/03/1962. In April of 1974, they moved to Okemah, Oklahoma until November of same year, when they moved to Salem, Oregon. Every move was to escape the Bakersfield heat and be near family. Okemah was where Juanita’s parents and one sibling lived, with cousins and in-laws scattered throughout the state. Salem also had nephews and nieces, as well as in-laws. In late 1981, Juanita and Jesse decided to move back to Okemah, Oklahoma, due to Juanita’s mother falling ill. They actually made the move 01/31/1982, leaving Victor behind to enter the Army. Her mother and father both passed away within two years of the move, and they stayed in Oklahoma until January of 1987 when they moved back to Bakersfield, CA.
It was the three of them, Juanita, Jesse and Dee who stayed there, then Dee moved out after her marriage on 01/01/1988. Dee moved back with her daughter Amber (Moss) Wooster September/October 1990, to Juanita’s and Jesse’s delight. There were many happy times until 08/28/1995, when Jesse passed away. That was when Juanita, Dee and Amber thought of themselves as the three musketeers. Eventually, they decided to move to Okemah, Oklahoma in the summer of 2000. On 08/03/2008, Amber moved back to Bakersfield to be with the love of her life, Bryan Wooster.
As Juanita got older, the weather was not good for her health. She was diagnosed with COPD in the mid-2000’s, but it wasn’t until they had a major gas leak in their home, that she ended up needing to be oxygen dependent. She and Dee decided to move back West. They briefly lived in Arizona, and made their way back home to Bakersfield in November of 2016, where they resided with Amber and Bryan Wooster. On 05/28/2019, Wyat Wooster was born to Amber and Bryan, and he instantly became the apple of her eye. He gave her a reason to keep pushing on even though she told everyone how tired she was becoming. In September of 2020, she got the news of her baby brother Johnny passing away which was devastating to her, as he was like another child to her. Juanita’s health continued to decline and she contracted COVID in January of 2021. However, she defeated it and was able to come home, much to everyone’s relief and delight. But, in June of this year, she again had an oxygen event and ended up in the hospital. This time however, she was diagnosed as end-stage COPD – her journey was coming to a end. On June 16, 2021 she passed away with Dee and Amber by her side, and is now reunited with her beloved Jesse.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Ellen (Tootie) Babb, Earline Bond, and her brother Johnny Bond.
She is survived by her daughter, Dee A Hartline of Bakersfield, CA, her son Victor A Hartline of Mesa, AZ; brother MP Bond Jr of Seminole, OK; grandchildren Amber & Bryan Wooster with great-grandson Wyat; granddaughter Alexandria Hartline with great-grandson Arron; granddaughter Kristina Hartline with two great-grandchildren Rylan and Natalia; granddaughter Fallon Hartline with great-grandchildren Lilith and Lucian.
