Joseph Martin Zaninovich, affectionately known as Marty, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 29, 2022. Marty was born on April 26, 1951, to John and Rosalie Zaninovich in Delano, California. He graduated from Porterville High School and then served in the National Guard. After his time in the service, he returned home and joined his family-owned table grape farm, VBZ and Sons. Alongside his family, he made VBZ and Sons one of the most prominent table grape farms in the industry. Marty loved farming and took great pride in being able to supply the finest table grapes all over the world for families to enjoy.
Once he retired, he became a connoisseur of classic cars, specifically anything from the 1930s. He loved attending car shows and proudly showcased the trophies that his hot rods earned him. Marty also found a passion for aviation, earning his pilot’s license to fly around his numerous relic planes. In addition to his love for cars and planes, he absolutely loved BBQing for his family. He knew his way around a BBQ and loved having a full house of hungry mouths to feed.
Marty is survived by his wife, Loretta; children, son Selleck Zaninovich (wife Andrea), daughter Ashley Basanese (husband Paul), stepson Brandon Holthaus (wife Mandy); and brother, Mark. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Brodie, Brayden, Addison, Emilia, and Leonardo. Marty was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Marty was the most loving, kind, and dedicated family man who could always be seen with a smile on his face. His happiness was contagious.
He was fiercely dedicated to his church and serving our Lord Jesus Christ. His family is at peace knowing he is now in Heaven serving our Heavenly Father.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd at 9 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A celebration of life will follow at Bakersfield Country Club.
