Jimmie was born the oldest of four children to Jimmie and Jolene Johnson on July 9, 1952 in Vernon, TX. Jimmie met the love of his life Patricia in Sarasota, FL and they were married in Vernon, TX. Jimmie is survived by his beautiful wife of 44 years, Patricia, who he loved immensely, his 5 children in total. Daughters Samantha and spouse Jimmy, Ashley and spouse Doug, and Haley Johnson. His daughter Jamie Lynn and son Jason from previous marriages. His grandchildren whom he cherished immensely, Elijah, Jolene, and Isaiah. His sister Cheryl Burke and his brother Michael Johnson.
Some of his fondest moments were reminiscing about childhood memories and storytelling with his daughters. He always had wonderful stories to tell and if you heard them once you heard them a hundred times. And they never grew old but they always got better. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. You could always find him enjoying a cup of coffee in the mornings listening to his country music.
Jimmie wore many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, friend, JJ, Big Jim, and, perhaps his most well-known title, Papa. He loved his children and grandchildren very much and would brag about them at any opportunity he was given. He never missed the chance to tell them how proud he was of them.
Jimmie was an incredibly hard worker and talented welder. One of his biggest accomplishments was welding the custom hand rails for Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace where him and Buck became great friends. Although his career in welding took him to many great places and things, his greatest passion was softball. He deeply loved and respected the game. You could always find him on a softball field, whether playing, umpiring or as the So. Cal director for USSSA at one point. He was an extremely talented 3rd baseman and was known for either crushing home runs, even in his late 60’s or smoking the ball down the third baseline. He played Majors AA among the elite and went and played in countless world softball tournaments. He was very well known in the softball community and made a huge impact on many people that truly were inspired by him.
He is preceded in death by grandparents O'Neal and Jessie Johnson, parents Jimmie Sr. and Joline Johnson, and brother Glyndon Johnson.
His memorial services will be held on October 26, 2023 at 1pm at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral home.
