Amber and Kristen Torres are heartbroken to announce the passing of their father, Jerome Len Torres. Jerome was born on June 23rd, 1960 and passed away on August 1st, 2022. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, father, Grandpa and fiancé. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic school first through eighth grade, then attended Garces and Highland before graduating in 1978. Always a hustler, he worked at several companies as a young man including; McDonald’s, Hall Ambulance, Stockdale Country Club, and Serbans Sound & Communications. As he got older, Jerome started working in the Pest Control Industry with San Joaquin Pest Control. After spending more than twenty years in the field, he eventually opened his own successful business; Tactical Pest Control.
Dj Jerome was an important member of the local music scene. He was a pioneer in the DJ community in Bakersfield for over forty years, it was his passion in life. At the age of eighteen, he started his career as a resident DJ, first known as “Sounds of Soul” at Rachel’s Night Club. In the 1980’s he continued his career at Roller Town. From 1984-86, he could often be found spinning his turn tables at Vidal’s. He eventually became known as DJ Jerome & Holiday Productions, and finally, DJ Jerome. He was beloved by many people and was a part of countless weddings, parties, and important life events for the residents of Bakersfield. Being a DJ brought him so much joy, he was always honored to help people celebrate some of the most important moments of their lives. Jerome also had many hobbies including playing basketball, tennis, and going bowling. He was incredibly proud of his children, and loved his family tremendously.
Jerome is survived by his parents, Manuel and Linda Torres, daughters Amber and Kristen Torres, and his Fiancée, the love of his life, Tammy Soutchay. Siblings Keith Torres, Grace Torres, and Valerie and Larry Lomely. Grandchildren Caden Robideaux and Charlotte Daisy Torres. Nieces and Nephews Raymond Garcia, Klint Torres, Karissa and Michael Porter, and Karina and Allen Nicewonger. He had numerous cousins, friends, and clients who always commented on his kind heart, wonderful laugh, and great smile. He is preceded in death by his niece, Kandace Pierson, and great niece, Katrina Pierson. Grandparents Maximo and Josefa Torres, and Margarito Ponciana Estrada. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, best friend, and pal, Ty Torres.
Please join the Torres family for Jerome’s service on August 18th, 2022 at 9am at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church at 4201 Wilson Rd. The Bakersfield Freedom Riders will be providing a motorcycle escort following the church service for the burial at Hillcrest Memorial, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd at 12pm. His daughters will also be hosting a Celebration of Life at 2pm at The Eagles Club, 1718 17th St. We ask all attendees to please dress formal, the color theme is black and gold. If you would like to send flowers, please send them to the church no later than August 17th, 2022.
A funeral service for Jerome will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Central 7th day Adventist, 4201 Wilson Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93309. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
