Harvey Ray Boyles was born September 19, 1936 and passed away October 7, 2024 in Bakersfield, CA. He was born in Gilroy, CA and moved to Bakersfield when he was 5 years old. Harvey attended East Bakersfield High School, and after graduating in 1954 he joined the U.S. Navy and served from January 1956 until December 1959. He served aboard two attack Aircraft Carriers the U.S.S. Hornet and the U.S.S. Oriskany in Radar Gunnery Control as a Fire Controlman 3rd Class Petty Officer. He met Inger, the love of his life, and they were happily married in 1965 until her death in October 2013. In 1966 Harvey joined the Kern County Sheriff's Department and served until April 1992 retiring as a Sergeant. Harvey is preceded in death by his wife of almost 48 years Inger, his mother Edith Cotton, Stepfather Joseph Cotton, father Auddie Boyles and his brother-in-law Brian VanNeman. He is survived by his son Steven Boyles of Los Angeles, his daughter Karen and son-in-law David Meyer of Bakersfield, grandson Alexander Meyer of Long Beach, and his sister Barbara VanNeman of Bakersfield. He was a loving and caring husband, dad, granddad and brother and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 between 6-8 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park Hill Of Valor.
