Frank was born at home in Shafter on February 2, 1944 to Margarita “Maggie” and
Frank Lopez, Sr. He was the third son of 7 children. He attended local schools and
was an accomplished athlete. He graduated from Shafter High School in 1961. Upon
graduation, he joined the Army where he served 4 years. He came home to Shafter,
married, and started a family. Frank began his career as a welder at Frank Russell
Machine Shop in Shafter. He began working for the County of Kern, Meadows Field
Airport in 1987 after leaving his welding career that ended with Hall Machine in
Bakersfield. On August 18, 1984, he married Gloria, his wife of 39 years, and they
watched their family grow. Frank and Gloria were active members of their church
until his health declined and limited their actives. Frank enjoyed woodworking,
gardening and caring for his pets, many of which were rescues. He also still
maintained a passion for welding. He created custom wrought iron gates, fences
and planters. Some of his work still stands around Shafter and Bakersfield today.
He loved his Anaheim Angels and San Francisco 49ers. He was a devoted father and
loved spending time with his grandchildren and his numerous nieces and nephews
who he adored. Frank was a fun loving, good hearted man with a big sense of humor
and a love for scary movies and old westerns. After having enjoyed retired life with
his wife, Frank was diagnosed with Vascular Ischemic Disease and that resulted in
some memory loss and difficulty walking. As this disease progressed, he was also
later diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that attacked his kidneys and
ultimately led to advanced kidney disease. He steadily declined the last year of his
life and his last week was especially difficult. He passed away just before midnight,
Sunday September 17th with his wife, daughters and stepson by his side. Frank is
preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maggie, his brothers, Domingo,
Manuel, and Richard, sisters Frances and Petra “Bertha”, his niece Mary and
nephews Ronnie, Michael and Christian. He is survived by his wife Gloria, his sister Cecilia, his
three daughters Stephanie, Patricia and her wife Karen, Carrie and her husband
Alan, grandson Stevie, his stepchildren Dora, Zeke, Stella, and Ben, 10
grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, nieces Katy, Arleen, Yvette, Judy, Carla,
