It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Hofknecht, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong servant of his community. Richard passed away on November 17th, 2024 at the age of 80.
Born on April 18th, 1944, Richard was a proud native of New York. He was married to the love of his life, Mildred, for 59 wonderful years. Together, they raised two daughters, Dawn and Lisa, who were the light of his life. Richard's family grew with the joy of his three beloved grandchildren, Jayda, Abigail, and Argenis, who brought him immeasurable happiness in his retirement years.
Richard was a dedicated police officer with the Nassau County Police Department, where he spent 34 years protecting and serving his community. Known for his integrity and commitment, he earned the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of those he served. After retiring from law enforcement, Richard cherished spending time with his family, particularly enjoying moments with his grandchildren, and pursuing his love of sports, including softball, golf, tennis, and bowling.
Richard was a man of character, integrity, and kindness. His unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and his values left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was a fine and good man, loved and admired by many.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Mildred; his beloved daughters, Dawn and Lisa; his friend and son in law Jonathan; his cherished grandchildren, Jayda, Abigail, and Argenis; and a host of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother August.
Richard will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on forever in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
