I was such a big fan of Mike, he taught me so much when I first became involved with the union.  Mike is a legend at Pan Am, may he rest in eternal peace.

I also was one of the many Pan Am friends that worked and benefited from Mike's hard work as a union Rep over many years.  Both our sons played soccer and we were both involved with our soccer clubs. I with the Brentwood Soccer Club and Mike with the Babylon Soccer Club.  I will never forget the great tournament Babylon held that brought some teams from around the world (first time on Long Island) and Mike was a big help in getting it done as I understand. So Mike was always involved in helping people !! He will be missed dearly by his many Pan Am friends.  From all his Pan Am friends  condolences  to the family. I am so sorry this was late but just today found this obituary.

Just saw that Mike "Baccala" Bakalo passed back in April. Mike was our union rep. when I first was hired at Pan Am in 1966 as a mechanic's helper. I was a young tough (I thought!! ) Brooklyn kid just out of the U S Navy. Mike taught me so much about union leadership. I loved when he would blow the cigar smoke from his BIG cigar at Pan Am management back in the day! We all thought he was something special....and he was.

Barbara & famiy...sending heartfelt sympathy to you and the Bakalo family.   Funny how families/relatives go their ways as we were growing up and separated by miles; and then thinking of someone's passing  brings back memories of long ago.   Remembering Michael when he came to the farm in Schoharie where he and my brother let pigeons go in the bedroom that they had caught in the barn that night.  Funny now.  And I was excited to be in Mike & Barbara"s wedding.  Rest in peace Michael.   Thinking of you Barbara.

My heart goes out to the Bakalo family and all who  knew him. I am fortunate to have shared many memories and the one that stands out is our trip to AC where He taught me how to play craps.  With  Mike by my side I had a 15 minute roll. That certainly speaks to his positive energy.  He
Called  me his Jewish Princess but the role was meant for Barbara who he made special all the days of their marriage.  He was  loved by all and respected for the man he was.

Everything he was & did in his life was for his family.  He was a great Husband, Grandfather, Brother, Son, Uncle & Friend.  He leaves a legacy of footprints in all our hearts & many life lessons we will carry forward from an example of a strong man who was a leader in business, had integrity, was dependable, loyal, humble, had strong family values & gave the shirt off his back for the people he cared about.  He made sure to never miss an important event for anyone.  He was a tough man on the exterior with the biggest heart💙  He was one of a kind & we’re so grateful & proud to have had him as such an important part of our lives.  We will all treasure our amazing memories. I was looking for pictures of Mike but only came up with this one. I know I have more but can't find them right now. I will miss him. He was like a big brother to me.

It is with deep sympathy I learn about Mike’s passing. I worked with Mike in various capacities over a 20 year span. We shared so many good times and laughs about the times he was a bouncer back in his younger days.  Mike often talked about his family with great pride and love.  Mike at times could be bigger than life especially when he would say “ Let me tell you something Kid”  I knew he was going to give me some strong words of wisdom. Despite some of his tough talk he truly had a kind heart. I enjoyed working with Big Mike he was a dear and loyal friend.  I am sure he will be welcomed in haven with open arms. We don’t have Mike around physically, but he will always remain in my heart..

Oh the memories Mike left with me. First, Mike was a great union advocate and he taught me so many things, that helped shape my Union career in so many ways. He taught me how to be firm when needed and when a softer approach was more appropriate. I spent many long days and nights negotiating, and working for and with Mike, learning the do’s and don’ts which help me in my work life.  Mike was a walking lesson for me. There are thousands of stories I could share, but I think this particular one would bring a smile to his face. We were in negotiations and were working a 20+ hour day with no end in sight. I said to Mike, I need some sleep or I’m going to pass out. Mike said, you can rest once you pass away, we still have work to do. That was Mike, when on the job, the job came first! Barbara, I know he loved you and your boys to the end of the world. Know that he is finally resting and at peace and please find comfort in the many people that feel the way we do. Kathy and I loved Mike, you and your whole family. God bless and may peace shower the Bakalo family forever.

So sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Mike for several years and I always loved being around him. Mike was never one that minced his words and you always knew where you stood with him. We shared many a good meals and cocktails and it was just so pleasant to be around him. My wife Betty and I send our prayers and sincere condolences to Barbara and the rest of the Bakalo family. I considered him a dear friend and he will be sorely missed! May he Rest In Peace!
