C’est avec une immense tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de notre maman bien-aimée, Constance Provost, survenu au CHSLD La Renaissance à Aylmer, le samedi 9 janvier 2021 à l’âge de 96 ans. Elle était l’épouse de feu Jean Provost.
Née le 22 décembre 1924 à Aylmer, elle était la fille de feu Nelson Morin et de feu Isola Lortie et belle-fille de feu Marie-Jeanne Lortie. Elle laisse dans le deuil son fils Roger (Denise Charron) et ses filles : Diane (Huguette Latendresse), Danielle (Fernand Breton) et Lise (Mathieu Bouchard). Elle fut précédée dans la mort par sa fille Suzanne (Gilles Prevost). Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses cinq petits-enfants qu’elle adorait et chérissait : Jean-Olivier, Nikolas, Samuel, Justine et Charlotte; une arrière-petite-fille, Rafaëlle; sa demi-sœur Nicole (Jean-François Bordeleau), son demi-frère Guy (Lise Paquette), son cousin Roger Côté et sa cousine Colette Séguin, ses neveux Marcel, Pierre, Stéphane, Dominique, Marc-Antoine, John-John, Yves et Jean, ainsi que ses nièces Estelle, Johanne, Nathalie, Chantal et Andrée. Elle a été précédée dans la mort par ses quatre frères, Marcel, Malcolm, Richard et Mgr Roger, ainsi que par ses demi-sœurs Madeleine et Ghislaine.
Sa carrière politique s’est étalée sur plusieurs décennies. Conseillère municipale à la Ville d’Aylmer de 1979 à 1983, elle fut élue maire de la ville en 1983 et a occupé cette fonction jusqu’en 1995 en vertu de trois mandats consécutifs. Pendant son cheminement politique, elle a siégé en tant que présidente au sein de plusieurs organismes régionaux, dont la Société de transport de l’Outaouais (1992), l’Association du transport urbain du Québec (1990), la Fondation des Aînés de l’Outaouais (1989), la Communauté régionale de l’Outaouais (1987) et le comité du congrès de l’Union des municipalités du Québec (1985). Elle a également siégé aux conseils d’administration de plusieurs organisations, dont la Société d’aménagement de l’Outaouais (1993) et le Conseil régional de développement de l’Outaouais (1992) et fait partie de divers comités, notamment le Comité consultatif de la Banque Nationale du Canada (1991). En 1986, elle fut nommée « Femme politique de l’année » à l'occasion du Salon de la femme.
Son engagement communautaire est encore plus exemplaire. Elle a été présidente ou co-présidente de nombreuses levées de fonds, entre autres pour les Fêtes du 150e anniversaire d’Aylmer, le Petit Séminaire du Québec, la Croix Rouge, la « Heart Institute Foundation », Centraide, la Société canadienne du cancer et les Scouts. Elle a aussi été présidente d’honneur pour un grand nombre de fondations, d'événements et d'organismes communautaires : Centre hospitalier Pierre-Janet, Club Richelieu d’Aylmer, Sclérose en plaques, Paralysie cérébrale, Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de l’Outaouais, Club Rotary, Conseil des Arts d’Aylmer, le Festivoile, le Tournoi national de hockey Pee Wee, le Tournoi de Golf de l’APCHQ, l’Inauguration du parc de l’Imaginaire, la Semaine de sensibilisation à la violence faite aux femmes et aux enfants, le Premier Salon de la femme dans l’Outaouais, l’Association touristique de l’Outaouais, etc.
Parmi les réalisations dont elle était la plus fière figurent la revitalisation du centre-ville d’Aylmer, la construction d'un nouvel aréna et la réalisation de logements sociaux. Sa carrière fut riche en contributions à la prospérité et au bien-être de la communauté d’Aylmer, qu’elle aimait autant que ses enfants. Elle méritait bien le surnom de « La Grande Dame d’Aylmer ».

Étant donné les restrictions sanitaires liées à la pandémie, les funérailles seront célébrées dans l'intimité familiale.
