William R. (Billy) Young, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 3, 2016 in Kyle, Texas following a brief illness. Billy was born March 6, 1931 in Petersburg, Texas to Elanson Reese Young and Ida Gertrude McDaniel Young.
Billy worked for numerous machine shops before following his passion which was woodworking. He began a home remodeling business in 1978. He loved to work with his hands and would recreate small furnishings from merely a photograph. When he and Betty retired, they moved to Kyle. Billy served the Lord as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Buda for numerous years. He and Betty were involved in many ministries there and truly loved Vacation Bible School every year with their granddaughters and the community children.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers; Lee Young, Charley Mack Young, Marvin Young, and Clayton Young; and by sisters Dot Pole and Patsy Longmore.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty (Willis) Young; loving children, Larry Young and wife, Rebecca; Sharon Sprague and husband, Barry; Brenda Bell and husband, Stanley; granddaughters Jennifer Bell, Elizabeth Young, Taelor (Young) Mackin and husband, Brandon; and Sydney Sprague. He will be missed by numerous other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M., Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 7, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Buda, 104 S. San Marcos St. with Rev. Buddy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Honoring Billy as active and honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Beffort, Bill Burrell, James Cox, Ray Davis, Tom Davis, Horace Fletcher, Steve Hoipkemeier, Glen Jones, Ken Koehler, Wesley Roach, Roy Roach, Tom Royal, Randy Smith, Gary White, and Gene Varley.
