Sylvia Sue Honeycutt

Sylvia Sue Honeycutt went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 8, 2017. Born on October 24, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, she was baptized and confirmed at Highland Park United Methodist Church. After graduating from from Highland Park High School in 1955, Sylvia attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. While in college, she met her husband Kenneth Honeycutt, and they were married August 27, 1960, in Lamesa, Texas. She taught school in Lamesa until 1963 when she and Ken moved back to Austin.

After returning to Austin, Sylvia worked at the University of Texas , and later worked at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission in Disability Determination Services from 1974 – 1994. She also served on the board of directors at Balcones Little League. Sylvia volunteered for the Texas Exes and was an ambassador for the University of Texas Club. She loved UT athletics, never wanting to leave an event until they sang the Eyes of Texas. Diagnosed with cancer in June 1986, she served as a volunteer for Reach to Recovery helping other women through the process. She enjoyed red hats, bunco, traveling, and supporting her kids and grandkids in all of their activities.

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents Ted Eulon and Marie Strange, her brother Ted Eulon Strange, Jr. and husband, Kenneth Honeycutt. She is survived by two sons, Rick Honeycutt and wife Scarlet and Jeff Honeycutt, and two grandchildren Whitney Honeycutt and fiancé Andrew Rove and Eric Honeycutt. The family would like to thank US Memory Care (now Silverado) for giving her a fun and safe place to live. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s research.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 from 5:00- 7:00p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 2:00p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas.
