Stanley was born to parents Stanley Edward and Ruth Macora, and grew up in Clinton, MA. He attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. He served in the United States Air Force for 21 years and as a pilot, was stationed in England, Germany, the US, and Vietnam. He retired as a Major at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, and earned a PhD in Philosophy at The University of Texas. He loved to teach, and after finishing his degree, he taught at various institutions including The University of Texas, St. Thomas University in Houston, and Austin Community College.
He loved his Catholic Faith and his family. May eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Esther Macora, of Bantry Bay, Ireland; 5 children, Fr. Athanasius “Stephen” Macora, OFM of Jerusalem, Israel, Michael J. Macora and wife Alisa Macora, of The Woodlands, TX, Catherine A. Macora of Austin, TX, Mary Birozes and husband Anthony Birozes of Suwanee, GA, and Stanley I. Macora of Larchmont, NY; and also his 12 grandchildren, Christopher Birozes, Mary Macora, Catherine Ann Birozes, Matthew Macora, Michael Birozes, Gregory Macora, Theresa Macora, Anthony Birozes, Madeleine Macora, Maria Birozes, Luke Macora, and Peter Birozes. He is also survived by a brother, David Macora, and a sister, Ruth Howard, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with Recitation of Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM, on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. A private burial will take place at a later date at Houston National Cemetery.
