Stanley Kyle Kozinsky was born to Joseph and Florine Hinson Kozinsky on August 25, 1948, in Waco, Texas, and transitioned to his new home on Friday, September 2, 2022, in Austin, Texas. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2015 and then Parkinson’s Disease in 2019.
Stan attended Waco Public schools, graduating from Richfield High School. He received a full scholarship to Kilgore from Ford Motor Company, receiving an Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology. He transferred to the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1971 with a degree in Architecture. After graduation he served in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), rebuilding an AME church in in rural Arkansas. He settled in Little Rock, AK, when his volunteer service ended in 1972. He began self-employment in Little Rock, doing historic restoration/remodeling of homes. He moved back to Austin permanently in 1981, once again self-employed as a home builder/remodeler, specializing in historic restoration. He settled in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood, where he lived and worked until shortly before his death. Stan became the Director of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association’s Design Review Committee. He worked tirelessly on neighborhood planning, and, during some of the most difficult issues the neighborhood faced, made presentations to City Council, Board of Adjustment, and City Planning Commission, helping retain the character and the heart of the neighborhood he loved so much. When the Petrified Forest Motel on Guadalupe was demolished for building Walgreen’s, he salvaged all the petrified wood and incorporated it into signage for the Walgreen’s and then built the low wall and steel arch at Shipe Park along East 45th Street.
Stanley loved his family first and foremost. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rae Baldridge Kozinsky, his daughter, Kristen Bluntzer West, her husband, Nathan, her daughter Michelle West Sandler (Brandon), and son William Stanley West; and his daughter, Anna Margaret Kozinsky. He is also survived by his brother Edward Kozinsky, Edward’s wife Rose, daughters Sara, Beth, and Meg and two grandchildren; his brother/best friend, John Barrett, John’s wife Lucia Uhl, their daughters Liz (Shea) and Zelda, and his grandchildren, Henry and Bridgette.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 8, from 5-7 pm, at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731. Funeral service will be Friday, September 9, at 1:00pm, with burial at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas, at 2:00 pm.
