Stanley Wayne Casner, Jr., M.D., age 83, died in Austin, Texas on August 27, 2010. Born in Marfa, Texas on August 14, 1927, he spent his childhood on Chinati Ranch and later moved to Presidio. He was a retired physician who was board certified in both Family Practice and Emergency Medicine. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1944 to 1946. Dr. Casner studied civil engineering at Texas Tech before transferring to U.T. Austin for his pre-med studies. He graduated from U.T.M.B. in Galveston in July of 1958. He did his rotating internship at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was a member of Travis County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association for 50 years. Dr. Casner was predeceased by his mother, Kathryn Sheen Casner, father, Stanley Wayne Casner, Sr., and his sister, Dr. Anna Casner Tavenner. He is survived by son, John Wayne Casner of Seguin, Barbara Fay Casner of Austin, Peggy Gayle Alderson and her husband, Dr. Alan Alderson of Midland, and the children’s mother, Lucille McGee Casner of Austin. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chelsea Anne Casner and Christopher Wayne Casner, and nephews Mark and David Tavenner of Boston, John Tavenner of Bogota, Columbia, Paul Tavenner of Los Angeles, and niece Sharon Tavenner of Richardson. His passions were flying and building airplanes. He took B29s out of mothballs at Pyote AFB, worked on the Enola Gay and had his A&E mechanics license. He spent many hours reading and gardening. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from twelve-thirty until two- thirty in the afternoon, the 31st of August, at Austin Baptist Church, 9003 Waterford Centre Blvd in Austin. The funeral service is to be conducted at two-thirty in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 31st of August, in the sanctuary of Austin Baptist Church, 9003 Waterford Centre Blvd., where Dr. Gary Dyer is to officiate. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrance, the family requests that donations be made to Austin Baptist Church, Casner Christian Academy or U.T.M.B. Shriner’s Burn Hospital, Galveston.
