Sandy (as she preferred to be called) was born on January 27, 1959, in Alamogordo, NM, to Gene Delmar Spradling and Jo Anne Spradling. As the middle of five children, (and the winner of a “Cutest Baby” contest at nine months old) Sandy was often mistaken for being a triplet with her younger twin brothers, Tom and Steve. Incidentally, she was also the interpreter for them when the family could not understand a language usually only known among twins.
Sandy was also the child of an Air Force Serviceman and traveled with her family in her early years. She lived in Ohio and Bermuda before finally settling in Austin, TX in 1969. It is in Austin where she met her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Robert. Together, they made a lifetime of memories raising two children, gathering with friends, and drinking poolside margaritas.
Sandy was known for her outgoing and fun-loving personality. She made every gathering a party – even if it wasn’t the gathering’s intended purpose. While her love for black-and-white clothing was prominent in her daily apparel, she always made and wore her own crazy costumes for her monthly Bunco nights. Sandy made any room she entered as bright as the sun, which would explain why her favorite color was yellow.
Sandy is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, with whom she is now dancing in heaven; her father, Gene; and her brother, Thomas. She is survived by her mother, Jo Anne Spradling; Sisters, Jean Anne Shuffler (Arthur) and Susan Bos (Frank); her brother, Steven (Kim); children, Jason, (Jackie) Kelsey (Tyler); and her grandchildren: Autumn, Dakota, Ariya, and Ridge.
A Celebration of Life event will be held at 1 pm on April 29th, 2023 at her family’s property in Del Valle, TX. Costumes are encouraged.
