Parkinson Disease.
Sam was born on December 14, 1946 to parents Samuel and Martha HIll Povse. Sam married his best friend and loving wife, Dorothy Marie Schulenburg on July 10, 1976. Together they had a daughter, Lisa Marie Hill.
Sam is survived by his granddaughter, Taylor Marie Hill Franklin, sister Marilyn (Russ) Holstrom, sister-in-law Monika Hill, a nephew and numerous nieces.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Martha Hill Povse, Frank Povse; father-in-law Edgar Schulenburg, mother-in-law Milda Schulenburg (who passed away June 17, 2021); two brothers: Freddie Hill and Thomas Martin Hill; and a niece, Summer Hargrave.
Sam graduated from Travis High School and later attending college at ACC to study business. Sam was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army for three years from 1970 - 1973, where he worked as a lead Chef. After his honorable discharge, Sam served in the National Guard for two consecutive years. Sam truly loved his country.
Sam led his career at the University of Texas later retiring with 30 years of service. While simultaneously working at UT, Sam and Dorothy Marie owned Hill & Hill Concessions and Catering Service for over 40 years. He was well known for cooking "Bad Ass Barbeque". In addition, he was a promoter in racing having frequented Long Horn Speedway. He played a big role in the Texas International Drivers Association (T.I.D.A.). He also sponsored many organizations throughout the years.
Sam was a member of Ben Hur Schriners Temple, the Scottish Rite, and was a Brother of the Onion Creek Masonic Lodge 220.
Sam had many hobbies and enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, barbequing and was a huge UT Football fan. Sam devoted time to numerous fishing and hunting tournaments which lead him to compete internationally, placing 1st place in the 12th annual Southwest Invitation Marlin Tournament in Baja, Mexico. At another fishing tournament, Sam received the Bullshitter award.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Encompass Home Health, Texas Home Health, and Visiting Physicians for all their hard work. They would especially like to thank Dr. James Little Sam's Neurologist with the VA, Dr. Clyde Smith, Physical Therapist Steven Dorst, Occupational Therapist Angel Garcia, as well as Sam's caregivers, Nelia Miller and Lizzie Nix who all made home visits.
Services will take place on June 23, 2021 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park where Military will give honors. A visitation will take place at 12:00 PM, funeral service at 1:00 PM and a graveside service to follow at 2:00 PM. The family would like to invite friends and family to donate to the Parkinson's Foundation if they choose to. Services will be officiated by Harry Nicholson.

The Honorary Pallbearers are Marcus Bopello, Don Chrudimsky, Mark Chrudimsky, Taylor Marie Hill, Alan Karotkin, Harry Nicholson, Pat Sansom, Matt Trevino and Miguel Vela.
Sam will always be remembered as being a very generous man with a big heart and a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger because he always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife and family.
