S. Wayne Helton S. Wayne Helton, 56, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2005, at his home in Buda, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 4, 1949, in Morristown, Tennessee. Wayne was a devoted, kind and loving husband to Juliana (Julie) Fernandez Helton, his wife of 19 years, and a strong, caring father and role model to their son, Nathan Clay Helton. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Tennessee (the real UT) and was a passionate fan of Big Orange sports and the Tennessee Volunteers. He had a long, successful career as a journalist, editor and technical writer, and held positions at several Tennessee newspapers as well as the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the Austin American-Statesman, Saturn Corporation and the Texas Department of Transportation. Wayne was known for his deep voice, slow Southern drawl, and dry sense of humor, as well as a loveable stubbornness and strong will that left nobody uncertain as to where things stood. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping and relaxing trips to his beloved Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. His dream was to retire there in a log cabin, surrounded by trees and nature. In addition to his wife and son, Wayne is survived by his parents, Virginia Ruth and Rua Helton, of Madison, Mississippi; sister Patci and husband Robert (Bob) Haller; of Madison MS; brothers Edd Helton and wife Gloria of Cumming, GA., Jeff Helton and wife Laurel of Bristol, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family is thankful for the loving support and excellent professional care Wayne has had during the past seven years from Dr. Robert Wolff and staff; the MD Anderson Gastrointestinal Unit; Dr. John Doty and staff; Southwest Regional Cancer Center; the seventh floor staff of Seton Hospital and Hospice Austin. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on April 19, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home.
