She is survived by her children - daughter Julie Ward; daughter Diane Hawes and husband Martin; and son Chris Iverson and wife Kim. She is also survived by four grandchildren - Patrick Richard and wife Shelley; Jon Paul Richard and wife Theresa; Steven Hawes and wife Missy; and Erin Hawes.
Ruth Marie was preceded in death by her youngest child, Mark, in 1979 and by her husband, Roland, in 2000.
Ruth Marie was born in San Antonio on July 12, 1932 and was raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. She attended North Texas State University and then moved to Dallas to become an airline stewardess for Braniff Airlines. She loved working there, and she continued until she married in 1955 and began raising a family. She worked as a ‘Clipped B’ retired stewardess for years after that. When she married Roland, he was a widower with two small children – Julie and Chris - and she had two more children – Diane and Mark - and she raised all four kids as her own, bless her heart. She made sure that they were well-spoken, well-mannered, and well-loved. In 1983 she and Roland moved to Lakeway, where she made many friends in their new Hill Country life. Her faith in Christ was a great comfort and joy to her, and it never wavered. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Dallas for years. She was also an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Austin for years, and she loved Pastor Meyer. When she sang, she sang hymns, and she continued to sing them up to her final days. She loved her family, and we loved her, and we will miss her.
The family will have a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to Mount Olive Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
