Rosendo was born in Elroy, TX on March 1, 1935. He grew up in rural central Texas and learned the value of a hard day’s work at a very young age. In 1953, the Garcia family drove to CA in search of work as field laborers. They encountered the “Valley of Heart’s delight”, where they picked cherries, prunes and apricots.
Rosendo and Isabel were married on April 28, 1956 in Austin. They traveled seasonally for five years from Austin to San Jose, CA in search of a better life for their family. He secured steady employment at Sun Garden Packing Co., which made him a dedicated member of the Teamsters Union. He retired after forty two years as a supervisor. He was now able to purse his true life-long passion full time, cattle ranching in Elroy. There, he bought a large ranch and flourished.
Rosendo was a lifetime member of the TX Cattlemen’s Association, Angus Assn., and the American Quarter Horse Assn. He was an active co-leader of the Evergreen 4-H club in CA. He taught his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews animal husbandry, without having a formal education himself. This, taught them perseverance, responsibility and discipline. He traveled throughout CA and TX to shows but the show he enjoyed the most was in Denver, Co. He also never turned down the chance to transport horses or cattle for his granddaughter, Melissa to compete with. He was happiest at any cow show or rodeo. He enjoyed the outdoors, the country way of life, western movies, horse racing, and especially raising cattle.
We know he is back working cattle from dawn to dusk.
