Roland was born on November 21, 1928 in Austin, Texas to Bascom Bragg and Clara Goldstein Childress. Roland graduated from Austin High School in 1947. He attended the University of Texas at Austin. Roland proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 12 years. He married Myrtle Seidenberger in 1950, and they remained married for 59+ years. He worked for the Texas Railroad Commission, Oil and Gas Division, for 34 years. Roland and Myrtle welcomed a son, Gary, and a daughter, Carrie (Cissie) into their home.
Roland was outgoing, kind, caring and a true gentleman, serving God through serving others. He was a friend to many, and loved by all. He was a devout Catholic, serving the church communities of St. Louis and St. Albert the Great parishes.
Roland enjoyed family and friends immensely, and delighted in his seven grandkids and seven great grandkids. He was a long time football and basketball official, and loved HIS Texas Longhorns. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, grilling and gardening.
Roland is survived by his children, Gary Childress (Alice) of Victoria, Texas and Carrie Prudhomme (Tom) of Katy, Texas; his grandchildren Kristen Hendrix (Carlton), Stephen Childress (Regina), Bethany Hanson (Joseph), Andrew Prudhomme, Bryan Prudhomme, Theresa Prudhomme and Patrick Prudhomme; his brother Dean Childress; and great grandchildren Sarah, Julia and Caroline Hendrix, Carter, Jack and Grace Childress, and Harrison Hanson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Childress, his parents and seven siblings.
A visitation will held on Thursday, February 22 at 9:30am, immediately followed by the Rosary at 10:30am and Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin Texas 78758. Graveside service to follow at Capital Parks Memorial Hill in Pflugerville.
