Robert H. Lucas was born on December 20, 1915 in Gary, Indiana and died on March 27, 2004 at the Summit at Westlake Hills Health Care. He is survived by his wife, Joanna and three children and their spouses: David and Kay Lucas of Jensen Beach, Florida; Carol and Bob Drennan of Austin, Texas; and Barbara and Ray Schurr of Olmsted Falls, Ohio. In addition he is survived by four grandchildren; Robin Lucas Varnes and spouse Mark of San Rafael, California; Michael Armstrong Drennan and spouse Beth of Petaluma, California; Scott Greer Lucas of Tampa, Florida and Leslie Drennan Leach and spouse Jeff of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren. Bob was a graduate of Purdue University with a BS in mechanical engineering. At Purdue he was active in the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and was co-captain of the varsity baseball team. In 1950 he attended MIT under a Sloan fellowship and received his Masters degree in business and engineering administration. He was employed by US Steel for many years specifically involved in lake shipping. After leaving US Steel he held several positions in this same field, including being president of Kinsman Transit Co. He was a member of the Naval Architects Society and was active in civic affairs in Cleveland and Westlake. Bob and Joanna retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1980 and enjoyed over 15 years in the desert. They have both been residents of Austin since 1998. A service is planned at the Summit of Lakeway on Wednesday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service is also being planned for mid-April in Cleveland.
