Richard Moreno Sr.

Richard "Dickie" Moreno Sr. of Austin Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the age of 74. He was born on January 7, 1947 to Thomas Gonzales Moreno Sr. and Andrea Alvarez Loera of Austin, Texas.

Richard was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He was a long-time employee of Central Freight Lines and Capital Metro. He was a proud Austinite who had a passion for creating and playing Tejano music. His passion for music began at an early age first as a drummer and then transitioned to the keyboard at age of fifteen. He never learned to read music but you would never have known that fact, he learned entirely by ear, listening to songs by many well known Tejano artists before him. Richard was part of many local bands that played throughout Austin and the surrounding areas. We are blessed with the legacy of his music, his quick wit, his kindness, and his love.

Amongst other hobbies Richard enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, he treasured the memories and often reminisced about those adventures.

He enjoyed coaching baseball, especially his children's teams. His love for the sport was shared by his children and grandchildren, one of his favorite baseball teams was the Texas Rangers.

Richard was also an avid fisherman. He loved saltwater fishing, every opportunity was spent fishing the jetties, beaches, piers, bays, and coastlines of locations like Galveston, Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. If he couldn't make the trip to the coast you would find him freshwater fishing at local state parks. His passion for fishing was shared by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, their nickname for him was "Big Fish". One of his favorite fishing stories was a week of fishing in Galveston with family, ending with a fish fry that included an invite to everyone staying at the motel and people he met while fishing.

The most memorable things you will remember about Richard is his big heart, his love for his family and friends. His generosity, his kind words, and his humorous nature. You would often hear him say, I had a happy childhood, and blessed life, my only regret is growing old. Throughout his life he forever changed us for the better, he taught us to love, laugh, and live; his death reminds us of those precious lessons. We will miss you dearly and cherish every memory. We love you chingos.

He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Cecilia Ann Moreno Calderon, Theresa Moreno Ledesma, Beatrice Moreno Figueroa, Thomas Loera Moreno Jr., and Rudy Loera Moreno.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mayrena R. Moreno; His Children: Richard Moreno Jr. and wife Carol, Roland Moreno and wife Kari, Rodney Moreno, Michelle R. Fontaine and husband Peter. Along with multiple stepchildren. Grandchildren: Andrea M. Cabello and husband Nicholas, Nico A. Villegas, Nadya D. Villegas, Noah M. Moreno, Roland John (RJ) Moreno, Serena N. Fontaine, and Rianna M. Moreno. Along with eight great-grandchildren. Sister, Consuela Guerrero and many cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

Richard will be cremated per his wishes; no formal services will be held.
