After making sure everyone here on Earth had heard his jokes at least a few times, Richard Bruce Goulet, age 65, went to heaven on September 10, 2017 in Austin, Texas. Richard was always the life of the party, and could be counted on to lighten up even the most stressful of situations with his incredible humor and wit. His love for music and powerful voice could have a whole restaurant smiling, singing along as he sang “Happy Birthday,” to a stranger. He constantly brought joy to those who knew him, and was patient enough to tolerate a house full of women and Shih-Tzu’s.
Richard was proud of the six years he spent in the Navy, in his own words, “saving America,” and he was happy to entertain anyone who would listen, and make them laugh with stories of his time in service. He enjoyed a successful marketing career, and was known in the workplace for his charisma, even earning himself the title of “Mr. Sprint.” Richard was an active member of the St. Thomas More community, serving in the choir, renewal retreat weekends, engaged couple sponsorship, and Eucharistic ministry.
Some of Richard’s pastimes included yelling enthusiastically at his TV, either to offer words of encouragement to his favorite sports teams or to solve puzzles faster than every contestant on Wheel of Fortune. The majority of Richard’s time outdoors was either spent on the golf course or walking his army of Shih-Tzu’s. He was known for his unique sense of style, as he could always be found in a brightly colored Tommy Bahama shirt.
Richard will be greeted in Heaven by his parents, Helen and Don, his sister Susan, and his father-in-law, Edmund. He is survived by his son, Daniel, daughters, Lauren and Brianna, and wife, Maria, who know he will keep Jesus laughing in Heaven until they meet him there.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 16 at St. Thomas More. The Goulet family would like to invite guests to our house following the service for a celebration of Richard’s life.
