He was born on April 13, 1931 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Cyril and Cora Fisher. Shortly after High School in 1948 he enlisted in the Navy to “See the World”. After being honorably discharged in 1952, he attended Penn State University and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During college he married the love of his life Helen Regina Wharton in Patton, Pennsylvania on June 12, 1954. He had a great career that started with IBM’s Military Products Division which took him to Endicott, New York; Huntsville, Alabama; Gaithersburg, Maryland and finally to Austin, Texas. He was instrumental in numerous patents awarded to IBM and his proudest achievement was being on the team that created the switch selector which was the brains behind the stage separator of the Saturn V rocket that took men to the moon.
He enjoyed a lengthy retirement where he found the time to write a book and companion diskette “ Winning Bridge “ that could also be played on a computer. His other passions were fishing, playing bridge, poker, billiards, bingo and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Cora Fisher; brothers Leonard, Cyril, Edward, Earl, John, and Jim; sister Esther Davidson; son Jeffrey Thomas Fisher; and daughter Gwen Marie Fisher.
He is survived by his wife Helen Fisher; daughters Sharon Ulshafer, Pam Fisher and Jill Wilson; son Richard Fisher II. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday morning February 8th , at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills at 9700 Anderson Mill Road. Graveside services to follow at 1:00 pm at Cook-Walden Capital Park Cemetery, 14501 N. IH 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
