Regina “Gina” Saucedo Lopez, 64, reunited with her husband in their heavenly home on June 12, 2019, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Gina was born to Alfred and Elisa G. Saucedo, in Austin, TX, on November 27, 1954. She was raised within the Catholic religion and was a member of the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. She had a loving and thoughtful heart which led to her passion for caring for children. Gina began her career as a preschool teacher and then a teacher’s assistant with the Special Education department at Travis High School, where she retired after working more than 25 years. Following retirement, her passion for caring remained strong, as she continued working with one of her students in her home for 7 more years.
Gina was blessed with a big and loving family. Growing up, her family included five siblings who looked out for one another and cherished each other. She later found her first love and married Alfred T. Lopez, in Austin, TX, on November 29, 1980. They resided in Wharton, TX for a couple of years and eventually moved back home to Austin, where together they built their family. Gina raised her four children with patience, discipline, and humility. She enjoyed her children participating in extracurricular activities and loved cooking big meals. Some of her specialties included potato salad, chicken salad, Thanksgiving stuffing and menudo.
Gina was a nurturer at heart. She was kind and generous, welcoming anyone with open arms. Gina always had a smile on her face, and you could constantly hear her laughter in a room full of people. She was a patient listener, as she never turned anyone away who wanted to talk. Gina enjoyed trips to Costco, watching movies, football and basketball, playing Solitaire and Word Brain, putting together puzzles, sitting outside on her porch listening to the birds, and most of all being at home with her family. Her grandchildren enjoyed hearing stories about her cherished childhood memories which included her loving siblings. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who are comforted knowing she is at peace with her Creator.
Gina is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred T. Lopez, her brother John Albert Saucedo, and her parents.
Gina is survived by her children, Mary Helen Tijerina and husband Vito, Marissa Lopez, Alfred Lopez Jr, and John Albert Lopez; her grandchildren, Aaron, Elisa, Jonathan and Reigna, and her siblings Mary Alice Padilla and husband Gabriel, Joe Alfred Saucedo and wife Terry, Frank Saucedo and wife Alice (deceased), Carolyn Flores and husband Raymond and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Seton Oncology staff and the admissions team for their hard work and dedication. They always made Gina feel comforted and taken care of and at home the best way that they could. Also, thank you to Hospice Austin who helped Gina and the family feel more at peace in her final days.
