Renee Griffin, age 84, of Cedar Park, Texas passed away peacefully from this life on November 2, 2010 surrounded by her family. Renee was born in Lurgan, Northern Ireland on December 12, 1925. Renee came to the United States in 1954 and was extremely proud and honored of becoming a citizen of the United States of America. She settled in San Antonio, Texas where she met and married Robert C. Griffin. They had three daughters. In 1963 they moved the family to Austin, Texas. From that point, she was an avid Longhorn football fan and proudly wore her orange on every game day. Renee worked at the Texas Department of Public Safety in the front lobby. She met many people and formed many friendships. She retired in 1991 after 24 years of service. To her three daughters, Renee was Mother. To her eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter, she was Granny. She was also Granny to a large extended family of friends. Renee was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, one sister and one nephew. Renee is survived by her daughters Cheryl Hubbard and husband Rick of Cedar Park, Texas, Linda Ricles and husband Jim of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Kathy Handrick and husband Mike of Cedar Park, Texas. She is also survived by her “spoiled” and much loved grandchildren Casey (Hubbard) Sheafe and husband Luken, Scott Hubbard and wife Michelle; Laura, Jason, Victoria, and Hannah Ricles; Leah and Tyler Handrick; and her precious great-granddaughter Kaydence Hubbard. She is also survived by loving family in Canada and Ireland. A special thanks to CiCi and everyone at the J. C. Penney Styling Salon in Lakeline Mall for always taking care of our Mother and making sure her hair always looked its best. You all made her feel so special and you know she loved all of you.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Texas Oncology, especially Dr. Beth Hellerstedt, PA Lisa Painter, Dr. Carl Nuesch and his radiology staff. We would also like to thank all nurses and medical staff in the Seton Medical Center IMC, the 7th floor nursing staff, and Hospice Austin for all their care and support. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 5th of November, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin. A funeral service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 6th of November, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, where the Rev. Pat Thomas and Rev. Paul Escamilla, will be officating. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
