Lamar proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for the Veterans Administration for 42 years. He served in many positions of the church and was a devoted Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Lamar will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Ethel I. Gordon; beloved sons, Randal Gordon and wife Dianna and Robert Gordon and wife Mary Jo; grandchildren, Randal Gordon and wife Jennifer Leichsenring, Cherie Bevil and husband Brian, Samantha Gordon, and Daniel McKinley and wife Tara; great-grandchildren, Mikaela Bevil, Makenzie Bevil, and Nolan McKinley; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 19, 2016, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. A Celebration of Lamar’s Life will be at 9:30 A.M., Saturday, February 20, 2016, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Eric Gates, Senior Minister of Central Christian Church. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Honoring Lamar as pallbearers will be Tom Maser, R.D. Gordon, Danny McKinley, Kenneth Balstrop, Carlos Gacharna, and Brad Bounds.
