Oscar Boyd Miles, 86, passed away peacefully January 5th 2012 in Austin Texas. He was born April 29th, 1925 in Lometa, Texas to William Boyd Miles and Kate Pollard. He survived the depression with his brothers, Howard, Mark, and George, and his sisters, Frieda and Lois.
Oscar enlisted in the Navy on April 29th 1943, his 18th birthday. He served and fought for our country for three years, during World War II in Okinawa and working as a mechanic on fighter planes.
He married Kathryn Perry on January 19th, 1946, just eight days after his discharge from the Navy, and they were together 46 years until her passing in October, 1992. Together they had four children and five grandchildren. After Kathryn passed he gained five great-grandchildren. Oscar and Kathryn were known as papa and memaw to the grandchildren, and later big papa to the great-grandkids. His life was filled with family, friends, and plenty of fishing!
Oscar spent most of his adult life after the military has a plumber and joined the union in the 70’s staying in the union until 1985 when he then retired. After his retirement Oscar and Kathryn stayed home and enjoyed watching the grandkids, camping, and fishing.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and his sister, Lois, his wife, Kathryn G. Miles, and his daughter, Robin L. Miles.
He is survived by his children, Ronald B. Miles of Austin, Texas, Charlotte G. Whited of Grapevine, Texas, and Yvonne M. Capehart and her husband, Ardell E., of Spicewood; his sister, Frieda Edwards of Austin, Texas; his grandchildren, Kevin B. Miles of Beaumont, Texas, Brad L. Whited of Grapevine, Texas, Robin J. Whited of Grapevine, Texas, Wesley M. Capehart of Leander, Texas, and Amelia L. Rogers and her husband, Harold E., of Spicewood, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kevin Lee B. Miles, JR., Heatherly A. Miles, Tobias A. Rogers, Reilly K. Rogers and Tanner J. Dobrzanski.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Saturday, the 7th of January 2012, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 8th of January, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
