Mike Manos, age 81, passed away on November 8, 2021. Mike's father was a restaurateur who operated a restaurant called Market Cafe on 6th Street in downtown Austin. Mike's mother, Violet, served as a Vacation Bible School leader, a sponsor of the girls Auxiliary, and a member of the Women's Missionary Union. Mike's brother, Mickey, worked as a chef in several restaurants in Austin. Mr. Manos, Mike and Mickey were lifelong University of Texas football fans.
Mike was born on January 4, 1940, in Austin, Texas. He attended school in Austin at Mathews Elementary School, Fulmore Junior High School and Stephen F. Austin High School, where he ran track. Mike attended West Austin Baptist Church and Tarrytown Baptist Church when he was growing up. Mike graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Law School. In 1968, Mike married Gloria Zegub, who worked for the State of Texas until she retired. Mike and Gloria were blessed with a wonderful son, Mike Manos III, and a super granddaughter, Sophia Victoria Manos, who both live in Austin.
Mike practiced law in Austin and received recognition by the State Bar of Texas for 50 years of valuable and meritorious service to the Community, State and Nation in 2017. Mike received recognition by Texas Monthly magazine as the Austin, San Antonio and Central Texas Region's 2009 Five Star Wealth Manager in Will Preparation. Mike participated in several non-profit organizations. He served in the Austin Bar Foundation Veterans Legal Assistance Clinics, and the Enterprise Professional Services, a non-profit agency maximizing employment for people with significant disabilities. He also supported and sponsored the UHO Little Miss Kickball International for several years.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Mike Manos and Violet Thomason Manos; and his brother, Mickey Manos. Family members include Mike's sister, Athena Shawell and son Shannon Shawell; niece, Melissa Foles and her husband Larry Foles; daughter, Lacey Foles and husband Antione Foles; daughter, Katie Foles; son, Nick Foles and his wife, Tori Foles; nephew, Brad Manos and his wife, Michelle Manos and their sons Austyn Manos and Dylan Manos; and great nieces and nephews, Bentley Grace Foles, Braelyn Foles, Braxton Foles, Kobe Foles, Lily Foles and Duke Foles. Very special relatives include Charlene Zegub and her family, Juanita Fleming and her family, and Sharon and John Ross. A funeral service for Mike will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78752, followed by a reception from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
