Michael Lee Edwards was born in Dallas, Texas on March 22, 1951. He passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2023, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Edwards, and his two older brothers, Bobby, and Eddie Edwards. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 48 years; his daughter, Emily Stuetelberg and husband, Eric; and his precious grandchildren, Brace Oliver, and Bree Parker.
Mike was a graduate of Lancaster High School and a member of the Class of 1969. He held leadership roles in many campus organizations. Although he participated in all sports, he excelled in football. Mike went on to play collegiate football at the US Air Force Academy.
While at the Academy, Mike learned many life lessons. From his early days there to the present, Mike always believed in and practiced the Core Values printed in his Cadet Handbook- “Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do”.
Soon after marrying Carol in 1975, Mike received his bachelor’s degree from UT Arlington and embarked on his dream to coach football. Mike’s coaching career began at Adams Middle School in Grand Prairie, TX, later transferring to Sam Rayburn HS in Pasadena, TX. His hard work was recognized, and he was promoted to Defensive Coordinator. He loved his players, some with whom he had kept in contact for more than 40 years.
After being offered a coaching position at Rice University, Mike made the decision to return to his automotive roots. He joined Service Group in Austin, TX where he was named the Executive VP of Marketing. In 1999, Mike’s separation from Service Group allowed him the opportunity to form his own company- First Innovations, Inc. which has now expanded to four thriving companies. This was one of Mike’s proudest accomplishments.
Mike’s passions were many. He loved teaching, coaching, and mentoring in all areas of his life. He loved being with family, spending time with friends at the ranch, attending concerts and UT Football games. He loved to help others- he was a giver, not a taker. And above all, Mike loved spoiling his grandchildren.
