Mayme's life's passion was wrapped around family, church & missions, and volunteerism. Family get-togethers were a commonplace even till the month of her passing. Family members met and shared dinners, birthdays, holidays, & played games with all the generations present. Mayme was dedicated to her husband's churches that he pastored and the missions they supported. Mayme had a real love for the homebound members of her church- Hillcrest Baptist, Austin, Texas. She was the director of the department until she was in her 90's and could no longer drive. At the same time she also volunteered at Seton Northwest Hospital weekly.
Mayme was married to Walter Tatum (W.T.) Johnson on May 7, 1932, a pastor & builder of churches, who preceded her in death on August 9, 1987. Upon Mr. Johnson's retirement from pastoring, W.T. & Mayme traveled with the Baptist Men of Texas building churches all over our state and having church services nightly. Mayme's hobbies included ceramics-she owned her own ceramic shop; having weekly classes encouraging family, friends, & new friends in this craft, and writing- many poems & pieces of prose about special occasions in her life. In her later years Mayme lived at Park Place Assisted Living in Georgetown, Texas and she enjoyed the special care received, the fun activities planned, and friendships she made.
Mayme is preceded in death by one son Thomas Earl Johnson, one brother Earl Earnest, six sisters Viola Baker, Bessie Kanetzky, Sadie Barnhart, Lorene Moore Buckner, Edna Dieterich Tidwell and Eva Huesser. Mayme is proceeded in death by her son-in-law Jimmy Schiller.
