Mary Head Moreland MARY HEAD MORELAND, a resident of Austin for 10 years, died Thursday, September 22, 2005. Mrs. Moreland for 65 wonderful years was the wife of The Rev. H. Evans Moreland, an Episcopal priest who died in 1998, and the mother of Daniel G. Moreland of Austin. A Memorial Service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, on Monday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. Born on November 4, 1910 in San Angelo, Texas, the daughter of Thomas H. and Nettie Katherine Griffin Head, Mrs. Moreland graduated from San Angelo High School and received her B.A. Degree from the University of Texas in 1935. While Mrs. Morelands husband attended the Virginia Episcopal Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, she worked in Washington, D.C. at the General Accounting Office as secretary to the Chief of the Claims Division. Her life as a priests wife was filled with volunteer work, including serving as Heart Sunday Chairman, Amarillo Symphony Guild member, and a hospital Pink Lady. The couples ministry included serving seven congregations in the Hill Country, churches in San Antonio, Brownsville, Denver, Amarillo, Mexico and London. While in London, Mrs. Moreland and her husband enjoyed many cultural activities, trips around the British Isles and the Continent. Mrs. Moreland was a long time member of the Order of Daughters of the King, a lay order for women in the Episcopal Church; the Washington Cathedral Association; and a long time lay associate of the Community of the Holy Spirit, an order of Episcopal nuns. Mrs. Moreland is survived by her son, Dan, his wife Cathie, two grandchildren, Courtney and Christopher, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Head of Hebron, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews and many God-Children. The family requests that instead of flowers, memorials be sent to Daughters of the King, c/o St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79102 or to a favorite charity.
