Mary Brewer Haynes, 87, of Austin passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2023. She was a native Austinite and a member of Genesis Presbyterian Church. She was born on September 27, 1935, in Austin Texas; only child to Nina Mae (Rogan) and Mayo Thomas Brewer of Austin. She graduated from Austin High School and married the love of her life, Charles Milton Haynes in 1953.
After working at the Texas Highway Department, Mary became a mother and homemaker and created a loving tight-knit family that was busy, adventurous, and laugh out loud fun.
Mary was a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church. She was a delegate to General Assembly and a member of Presbyterian Women, receiving 2 honorary life memberships.
Mary’s seamstress talents were renowned; she could do anything with a sewing machine. She created beautiful banners, stoles, clothing, quilts, and a wedding gown. She also helped raise all seven of her grandchildren – forming a special bond with each of them. She loved and enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, the beach, and travel.
Mary epitomized a life of service. She devoted her life to her family, friends, church, and community. She committed her time and talents to helping others and anyone who met her came away feeling blessed.
Survivors include her daughter Susan Rodriguez and husband Michael, daughter Sharon McCollum and husband David, son Michael Haynes and wife Cristina, son Kenneth Haynes, grandchildren Kendall McCollum Weir and husband Brett, Carly McCollum, Sinjin Rodriguez, Mia Rodriguez, Makenna Haynes, Tyler Haynes and Charli Haynes, and great-grandson Price Weir. Mary was predeceased by her husband Charles Milton Haynes.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the Dyer Family for their lifelong friendship, love, and support. The family would like to thank the staff of Brodie Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Magnolia Hospice for their loving care.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Genesis Presbyterian Church, 1507 Wilshire Blvd., Austin, Texas 78722 with Reverend Mandi Richey officiating. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, at approximately 2:30 PM. Friends are welcome to attend.
